GVAA Softball participates in the Frederick County Girls Softball League. League information, including field locations and rules can be found at https://fcgsl.com/.
GVAA Softball is a Volunteer-run organization providing Fall, Winter and Spring playing opportunities for girls ages 5-16. Teams are ranked by Age Levels: 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U*. Age breakdowns for Spring 2026 are shown here. Age assignment is based upon a players age as of September 1, 2025.

*Players who are 16 years old may participate on a 15U team so long as they are not currently part of a Travel or High School Softball team.
Registration and Refunds: Registration is on a first come first serve basis and is open until teams are filled or until March 3rd. All registrations can be refunded up until uniforms are ordered the first week on March. Once uniforms are ordered, uniform costs are deducted from any fees charged and will only be issued until opening day. Once the season starts no refunds will be issued.
Practice Days, Times, & Location (Fall Season)
Practices will begin in mid March. Practices are 2 times a week before the games begin.
TIMES: Typically between 5:30pm 8:00pm on weekdays and various times on the weekend, but Coaches dictate practice times and will be set at beginning of season.
LOCATION: Heritage Farm Park
Equipment Needs:
- Game jersey/T-Shirt (Provided)
- Game socks (Provided)
- Softball glove (Required)
- Grey softball pants (Required)
- Batting helmet with face guard (Required)
- Faceguard/infielders mask (Required)
- Water bottle/jug (Required)
- Cleats (Recommended)
- Bat (Recommended) - teams may have a few extras, but girls should have their own. Refer to this link for sizing:
- Batting gloves (Optional)
- Sliding pad/shorts (Optional 12u/15u)
- Bat bag (Optional)
8u & 10u use 11" softballs and 12u & 15u use 12" softballs. Each team is provided practice and game softballs by the organization. Players don't need to purchase softballs unless for personal use.

Game Days, Times, & Locations (Spring Season):
The Fall season emphasizes developing each player's skills, game knowledge, and having fun. The Spring season is competitive at levels 10U and up, 8U does not keep track of scores or have playoffs. Games may be rescheduled if canceled by weather or other unforeseen events.
The Spring season ends with an all star game for all levels.
Playing Time Policy:
GVAA Softball is a member organization of the Frederick County Girls Softball League, and as such follows the league rules for playing time minimums for all players and restrictions on players who may also be registered with a travel or high school team. These rules focus on the recreational development of players and encourages participation of all players to develop skills.
ALL players must play a minimum of 3 innings in the field (8U and 10U), or 2 innings in the field (12U and 15U). This rule is suspended in the event of injury, illness, or disciplinary action taken by the coach before or during the game or in case of an official game shortened for weather or for run rule.
Travel players are defined from January 1- December 31st of that calendar year. No FCGSL team shall have more than 6 travel and/or high school players on their team. Travel and high school players shall not pitch more than 2 innings per FCGSL game, and a maximum of 4 innings pitched by all travel and high school players on any one team in any one game.
