Season Information

GVAA offers Intramural/Rec, Travel Team, and a K-2 clinic opportunities.

  • Intramural/rec teams
    • Divisions
      • Boys grades: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th/11th/12th (combined)
      • Girls groups: 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th, 9th/10th/11th/12th (combined)
    • Fees
      • $175
      • We will use the same jersey style as last season ('25-26). If you are a new player or need to purchase a new jersey, the fee will be an additional $35.
    • League Information
    • Practices
      • Practices begin mid-November. Until the season starts, every attempt is made to get one evening and one weekend practice a week. Once games start, practices are reduced to one evening per week. On average, practices are 60-75 minutes long.
      • Practices are typically held locally, at either Glade Elementary or Walkersville Elementary Recreation Center. However, depending on gym reservation space or the number of teams, practices might take place at other local gyms around the county.
    • Games
      • A typical season will have 4 home and 4 away games starting in December, plus playoffs ending in early March.
    • Other notes
      • Space is extremely limited, so it is recommended that you do not delay registering.
      • Coaches are volunteer parents.
  • Mid-Maryland (travel) teams
    • Divisions
      • Boys JV (6th/7th grades) and Varsity (8th grade)
      • Girls JV (6th/7th grades) and Varsity (8th grade)
    • Fees
      • Mid-Maryland Travel $175
      • If selected, an additional fee ($125) will be due prior to the first game.
    • League Information:
      • These teams play in the Mid-Maryland Basketball League (Boys and Girls) and against teams affiliated with Middle School draw areas throughout Frederick, Washington, and Carroll Counties.
      • These are competitive teams selected only through tryouts. More information about tryouts is below
    • Practices
      • Practices begin immediately after team selection. Teams will practice two or three nights per week throughout the season.
      • On average, practices are 60-90 minutes long.
      • Practices are at Walkersville Middle School.
    • Games
      • A typical season is 16+ games, starting in December, plus playoffs, ending in early March.
    • Other notes
      • The same academic eligibility requirements that apply at the high school level also apply to travel teams.
      • There is no guarantee of playing time for those selected for travel teams.

    • Middle School Open Gym begins September 14th, running until travel team tryouts. More information is below regarding Open Gym.
  • K-2 Clinic Program
    • Divisions
      • Co-Ed Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders.
      • Depending on registration numbers, there are typically two sessions: a "younger" session for K and younger 1st graders, and an "older" session for older/experienced 1st and 2nd graders
    • Fees
      • $90
    • Practices
      • During these sessions, young athletes will receive instruction on all fundamental aspects of the game and participate in game situations near the end of the program.
    • Schedule
      • This is an 8-week clinic that begins on the first Saturday of January and runs through February. Snow dates will be built in.
    • Other notes
      • Coaches are volunteer parents.
      • A team shirt is included with registration.

BOYS

Monday, October 5th

JV (6th/7th grades) - 6:00pm-7:30pm

Varsity (8th grade) - 7:30p-9:00p

Tuesday, October 6th

JV (6th/7th grades) - 6:00pm-7:30pm

Varsity (8th grade) - 7:30p-9:00p

GIRLS

Wednesday, October 7th

JV and Varsity (all together) - 6:00pm-8:00pm

Thursday, October 8th

JV and Varsity (all together) - 6:00pm-8:00pm

Players must register online to participate. Due to limited space, tryouts will be closed to coaches and players only, and parents are asked to drop off and return.

Middle School Open Gym (combined 6th-8th grades)

The Mid-Maryland coaching staff will hold an open gym for all Middle Schoolers. Attendance is not mandatory. Full-court runs will follow light instruction, drills, and conditioning. Registration and payment of a $15 fee are required.

BOYS

Mondays/Tuesdays, 6-8 pm: (9/14, 9/15, 9/21, 9/22, 9/28, 9/29)

GIRLS

Wednesdays/Thursdays, 6-8 pm: (9/16, 9/17, 9/24, 9/30, 10/1)
